GETTING HERE WILL
BE A PAIN IN THE ASS

There's really no way around it folks, we're asking you to come to the middle of nowhere with us. Except it's not actually nowhere, its everywhere! This land and this sky, these mountains, this water, this air...its all rich with history, it's heartbreakingly beautiful, and it's bursting with magic. And if you want to experience it (and we want you to so badly) then you have to work for it. For the large majority of you this means flying to Vegas, renting a car, and then driving three hours. It's a long trek, and believe us we know it...but you won't regret it! We want you all to know, without hesitation, that while we would love to be in the presence of your company this weekend, we completely understand if making this journey isn't in the stars for you.
To accommodate everyone we've condensed the major wedding events down to three days, but we recommend giving yourself 5-7 days or more out here if you're able! This area has so much to offer within a relatively short drive. Zion is one hour away, Grand Escalante is right there, Bryce Canyon is an hour and half away as is the north rim of the Grand Canyon. There are ancient slot canyons on Navajo land, hidden waterfalls, there's off roading in the Coral Pink Sand Dunes right down the road, there's star gazing and swimming. Kanab is even called “Little Hollywood” because so many western movies were shot there. Quite a few movie sets still remain in the area, including at Johnson Canyon where the totally defunct sets from Gunsmoke and other western films live. We encourage those who can to stay a little longer. While we're certain we'll give you a weekend to remember, we'd love for you to be able to explore a little more and turn this into the trip of a lifetime! We have endless suggestions of things to go and see, and of course we'd love more time with you!!
FIRST STOP, SIN CITY
There are actually two airports you can fly into, Las Vegas and St George. Las Vegas is a three hour drive and St George is just under two. Typically we recommend Las Vegas because flights and rental cars are less expensive and most airlines fly direct in an out of the airport. If you don't mind a connecting flight and a slight increase in fare, you may opt to fly into St George and cut your driving time down by an hour. Either way the drive is fast, it's easy, and its beautiful (and it's all part of the journey)!! We highly encourage you to take morning flights so you're making the drive during daylight. It's safer, quicker, and easier to make this drive during the day (this means you'll have to actually skip the sin part of sin city, but that's for another time anyway). If you know you're coming please please snag your tickets as soon as possible. They can be as low as $200 RT (from NYC) well in advance but as summer progresses we've seen prices go up three times that amount.
NOW WHAT?
Now you drive. Do I have to rent a car you're thinking? YES. We're in the high desert. Everything is far from everything else and there are NO ride shares out here. Know someone else attending? We recommend buddying up on car rentals with them! GPS will take you to your hotel/airbnb/blanket under the stars! WE WILL BE PROVIDING A SHUTTLE FOR FRIDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT. We're still working out the details but will keep you posted on pick up spots. Unless you've spoken to us directly about driving yourself we will be asking that ALL GUESTS take the shuttle to and from BaseCamp 37 for Friday and Saturday's events. We have very limited parking here and are also extremely adamant that no guests drink and drive.
DIRECTIONS TO BASECAMP 37
For reasons we can never understand Google Maps occasionally decides to lead people down private roads and roads that you can only travel down with a 4x4. So in an effort to keep anyone from getting lost in the desert please follow these directions if you will be driving to BaseCamp 37° at any point. We will be working on shuttles for the night of the ceremony and reception to both limit the amount of cars that need parking and so y'all can let loose and not have to worry about driving post party. BUT that being said y'all should still all have the right directions!
THE ADDRESS:
BaseCamp 37°
5951 E Eight Mile Gap Rd
Kanab Utah, 84741
THE DIRECTIONS:
From Kanab:
From the stop light at the intersection of 89 and 89A, head east on hwy 89.
At 5.6 miles from the light, turn right on Mountain View Drive (also labeled Vista).
Almost as soon as you turn onto Mountain View Drive there will be a T intersection. Turn left.
This road will immediately make a hard right turn and become gravel.
After 1 mile the gravel road makes a hard left turn (the only other option is to drive down a no trespassing road).
Continue for about 1.5 miles. You will drop down into the gap as you pass a McMansion on your left (tough to see at night) then a small brown house on your left.
BaseCamp 37° will be the next driveway on your left, another quarter mile past the little brown house. You'll see two Sage Colored Cabins on the left side of the road. The driveway has a giant rock at the entrance with our address, 5951 8 Mile Gap Road and a sign that says BC37.
IS THAT PHOTO REAL?
Sure is!! Our friend Tiago took this long exposure photo of the night sky at BaseCamp 37° last summer. One of the many benefits to being so far from a major city is the amount of stars you see every dang night!
